The two teams felt each other out in the first half with Kansas City jumping out to an 8-4 lead before St. Thomas took its first lead of the game, 12-9, by way of a second-chance three-pointer from freshman Kendall Blue. The hockey-style assist would be given to fellow freshman Ahjany Lee with the impressive hustle play for the offensive board.

The Tommies found themselves down by as many as five points in the first half, and led by as many as three points in the first 20 minutes. The Roos took a one-point lead, 33-32, heading into half when Blue hit another three, this time as time expired in the opening frame.

Blue and grad student Parker Bjorklund each netted 10 first-half points to lead St. Thomas. Blue added four rebounds and two steals in the opening half to also lead the Tommies defensive effort.

St. Thomas connected on 39 percent (11-of-28) of its shots from the field and 27 percent (3-of-11) from behind the arc, and 78 percent (7-of-9) from the charity stripe.

Through the first six minutes of the second half, Kansas City posted their largest lead of the game, eight points, 50-42 and later 56-48 with just over eight minutes remaining.

Sophomore Ryan Dufault scored six-straight points for the Tommies to cut it to eight points, 60-52 with seven minutes to play. The Roos were able to stretch their lead to 17, 69-52 with 5:01 to play. Kansas City stretched its lead to as many as 21 points earning the 81-60 win.

The Tommies had three net double-digit points as grad student Riley Miller, freshman Andrew Rohde and Bjorklund all tallied 10 points. 10 different Tommies netted points in the game.

St. Thomas went cold shooting against the league's top defense in Kansas City which leads the conference in points allowed and opponent field goal percentage. The Tommies connected on 30 percent (17-of-56) of their shots from the field and 21 percent (5-of-24) from deep.
