Fargo, N.D. - St. Thomas softball (13-36, 7-13 Summit League) suffered a doubleheader sweep on Friday at North Dakota State (28-20, 10-7 Summit League).
A pitcher's duel in Fargo, the Tommies were held hitless until the top of the fifth, when freshman Christina Crawford lined a scorching single to center field to clear the team's donut in the hit column.
Mounting an attempted comeback in the top of the seventh, Coryn Jacobson led off with a single to left field, followed by a one-out base hit from Sarah Hudson. The next two Tommies would go down in order, however, to halt the St. Thomas rally.
On the day, the righty pitcher Crawford went six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three Bison. With the loss, Crawford fell to 7-11 on the season.
The Tommies picked up their first base hit in game two in the third inning, as Nicole Pieper singled to shortstop, but was stranded at second base. Leading off the fifth, down 1-0, Katie Goelz singled to left center but was also left on the basepath.
St. Thomas was limited to just four hits in game two. Megan Baniecke was stamped with the loss, her 13th of the campaign, after allowing just three runs in six innings. Baniecke struck out one batter in the game.
