Tulsa, Okla. - Sophomore Nate Raddatz made university history on Friday as St. Thomas' first Division-I era individual conference champion.
The Prior Lake, Minn., native competed in 12 events over two days and chipped in 11 team points to lead Tommie Men's Track and Field into a tie for fourth place after Friday's second day of the three-day 2022 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Raddatz, freshman Jack Rosner, and freshman Sam May placed 1-3-8 in the decathlon to contribute 17 points for the Purple. The final five events of that 10-event decathlon were wrapped up Friday afternoon and evening.
The second seed, Raddatz recorded a career-best 6,855 score, a total which ranks him in the top 70 across the nation. It's also the third-best decathlon score in St. Thomas history and best over the last 26 seasons.
Rosner's score was 6,626 -- the fifth best in program history and tops all-time by a Tommie freshman. It's also the 12th best freshman decathlon score nationally in D-I thus far in 2022.
May tallied 6,141. Cameron Schulz placed 11th in 5,820. All four Toms hit career bests.
Freshman Gary Afram and Raddatz added four team points as they placed 6-8 in the long jump. Afram matched his college best at 22-10. Raddatz leaped 22-6 1-4.
Afram also ran the second-fastest 100-meter time in program history in the prelims as he clocked 10.52 to advance to Saturday's finals. Roman Cress set the Tommie 100 dash record in 2000 with a 10.49 clocking.
