Game Notes - Softball heads to Green Bay for a Wednesday doubleheader

St. Paul, Minn. - Softball opens the week of play at Green Bay, in a make-up doubleheader of a previously postponed series. The Tommies travel to Green Bay, Wis. for a two-game doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

Chasing No. 700
Coach Trotter is now 17 wins away from 700 career victories. 676 of Trotter's wins came with Missouri Western at the Division II level. Trotter earned her first Division I win in a 6-5 victory against Ball State on Feb. 11.

Last Time Out
The Tommies played a competitive series at Kansas City, with the three games averaging a 1.3 run differential. Two of the three games over the weekend were decided by one run. On Sunday, St. Thomas rallied from down a run in the top of the seventh with two outs, when Nicole Pieper lined a double to left field to drive in two runs. The win was the first of the season when trailing after five innings for the Tommies.

Still at the Top (of the Lineup)
The top three hitters on St. Thomas all bat 1-2-3 for the team. Brooke Ellestad is hitting .424, freshman outfielder Kaitlyn Raymond is batting .318, and third baseman Sarah Hudson carries a .300 batting clip. Those three hitters have combined for nine home runs and 47 RBI as a trio. All three are reaching base at a mark of .379 or better this season.

Climbing the Summit
Ellestad earned her first TicketSmarter Summit League Player of the Week honor last week after a strong showing at Western Illinois. Ellestad is the conference leader in batting average and hits (42), and is top three in slugging percentage (.667), OBP (.438), OPS (1.105), and home runs (6). Catcher/utility player Cassidy Carby is 10th in the Summit League in home runs (5). Raymond (13) and Hudson (12) are 9th and 10th, respectively, in the conference in walks. Coryn Jacobson and Pieper have both been hit by three pitches this season, ranking sixth and seventh in the Summit. Freshman Christina Crawford is in the top 10 in the Summit League in innings (72.2), strikeouts (61), and wins (4).

Hitting Heroes
Ellestad, Raymond, and Hudson have eached recorded six or more multi hit games. Ellestad has 14 multi hit games, including four three-hit contests, and one four-hit game. Raymond also has a four-hit game for St. Thomas this season. Ellestad is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak, leading the team. Ellestad has six multi RBI games, three of which have been of the three-RBI variety. Carby has a six-RBI game this season, which included two home runs.

Series History
The Tommies have never matched up with the Phoenix prior to Wednesday.

Scouting Report
Green Bay enters Wednesday with a 13-14 record, including a 6-3 mark within the Horizon League. The team lost its most recent game to Detroit Mercy, giving the Titans their first win of 2022. The Phoenix are led by hitter Tiffany Giese, who is batting .405 with 19 runs scored and nine RBI. Alicia Peters has hit a team-high seven home runs, joining Jadin Justman (4) and Samantha Saloun (5) as players on the team with four or more long balls. Abigail Gawlinski has the best ERA on Green Bay (2.05).
