St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas opens the week of play with a midweek showdown against the Minnesota Gophers. Tuesday's game marks the third time this season the Tommies have gone up against a Big Ten program (Ohio State and Purdue).
Chasing No. 700
Coach Trotter is now 12 wins away from 700 career victories. 676 of Trotter's wins came with Missouri Western at the Division II level. Trotter earned her first Division I win in a 6-5 victory against Ball State on Feb. 11.
Last Time Out
The Tommies took two of three from North Dakota over the weekend, including a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. It was the team's first Summit League series win since March 26-27 at Western Illinois. Saturday marked just the second time that the Tommies have won both games in a single day, with the first time coming in the season opener against Ball State and Eastern Illinois. Prior to the series with the Fighting Hawks, the Tommies were just 1-14 in Saturday contests.
Isabelle is Staying True
Junior transfer Isabelle True leads the team in ERA (3.45) in her first season at the Division I level. True is second in complete games (4) and third in pitching wins. In her last 27.0 innings, True has allowed just six earned runs (1.55 ERA).
Crawford Mows them Down
Freshman Christina Crawford, the team leader in wins (6), innings pitched (104.1), and strikeouts (83) posted a complete game shutout against North Dakota on Saturday. Crawford struck out five Fighting Hawks and did not allow a runner to cross the plate.
CJ Catches Fire
Junior outfielder Coryn Jacobson was outstanding at the plate against North Dakota, as she was retired just once offensively. Jacobson was 7-8 at the plate with one run, a home run, and four RBI. Reaching base by any means, Jacobson walked twice, was hit by two pitches, and was even intentionally walked by North Dakota.
Series History
This weekend marks the first time that St. Thomas has faced Minnesota as an NCAA Division I program.
Scouting Report
The Gophers enter Tuesday with a 20-20-1 record, including a 6-9 mark within the Big Ten. Natalie DenHartog hit a home run for the 52nd time in her career. That set a Minnesota record for most home runs in program history. The Gophers non-conference schedule ranks as the No. 1 most difficult in all of NCAA softball as they have played 14 games against opponents inside the top 50 of the RPI. Chloe Evans has reached base safely in 32 of 41 games played this season and been a run-producing machine for Minnesota. The sophomore paces the team with 40 RBI and ranks 61st in the country averaging nearly a RBI per game, including four, four-RBI performances. Minnesota drew double-digit free bases (11) for the second time this season April 13 against the Jackrabbits continuing a trend of a disciplined approach at the plate in which it ranks 24th nationally totaling 156 walks.
