Carby homers in Softball's road loss at Minnesota

4/26/2022 7:52:00 PM | Softball

St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas softball (12-30, 7-8 Summit League) lost on the road at Minnesota (21-20-1, 6-9 Big Ten), 9-3, on Tuesday.

Down 5-0 entering the fourth innings, the Tommies scored three runs, helped by a two-run home run from Cassidy Carby and a Coryn Jacobson RBI-single. After a Kaitlyn Raymond lead-off double down the left field line, Carby lined her team-leading eighth home run over the right field fence to give the Tommies their first two runs. With a runner on second, Jacobson reached on a run-scoring infield single to shortstop, bringing the team within two runs.

Raymond tallied three hits, while Jacobson posted a two-hit performance for the Tommies. Raymond has collected eight hits for St. Thomas over her previous four starts. For Jacobson, in her last 14 at bats, she is 10-14 with a run, a home run, and five RBI.

St. Thomas outhit the Gophers in the game, 8-7, and the loss while outhitting opponent moves the team to 10-8 in such instances.

Given the starting nod, freshman Christina Crawford pitched two full innings and allowed five runs to cross the plate. Megan Baniecke entered in relief of Crawford, tossing four innings and striking out two Gophers, allowing three earned runs to score.
