Game Notes - Softball continues road Summit League stretch at Kansas City

St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas softball (6-21, 2-1 Summit League) heads south to Kansas City, Mo. for a three-game series at the Roos (6-21, 2-1 Summit League). It is the second Summit League series for the Tommies in the team's first season competing in the conference. The Tommies opened Summit League play last weekend at Western Illinois with a series win.

Chasing No. 700
Coach Trotter is now 18 wins away from 700 career victories. 676 of Trotter's wins came with Missouri Western at the Division II level. Trotter earned her first Division I win in a 6-5 victory against Ball State on Feb. 11.

Climbing the Summit
Brooke Ellestad earned her first TicketSmarter Summit League Player of the Week honor after a strong showing at Western Illinois. Ellestad is in the top three in the Summit in batting average (.427), slugging percentage (.663), OBP (.447), OPS (1.110), hits (38), and home runs (5). The freshman shortstop leads the league in batting average and hits. Freshman RHP Christina Crawford is in the top 10 in the Summit League in innings pitched (61.1) and strikeouts (52). Megan Baniecke has yet to commit an error this season and is tied for first in the Summit in fielding percentage (1.000). Catcher Maddie Grad has thrown out eight runners, which ranks second in the league. Ellestad is eighth in the conference in assists (53). St. Thomas has scored the fourth-most runs (96) and RBI (84) in the Summit League.

Ellestad is Excelling
Ellestad has eight multi hit games in 2022, leading the team. Four of them have been of the three-hit variety, and one was a four-hit contest. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Raymond is second with six multi hit games. Ellestad is riding an eight-game hitting streak, the longest streak of her career.

Racking Up the RBI
Ellestad and Sarah Hudson have both amassed six multi RBI contests. Ellestad has three three-RBI games. Hudson has one three-RBI game. Junior outfielder Coryn Jacobson has four multi RBI games, all of which have been of the two RBI variety. Freshman catcher/utility player Cassidy Carby picked up a six-RBI game against Canisius (March 19) alongside two home runs.

Crawford is Carving them Up
Crawford leads the team in opposing batting avg. (.293), wins (3), innings pitched (61.1), and strikeouts (52). In her last game, Crawford held the Leathernecks to one run over seven innings, earning the win. Crawford is 2-0 with 20.0 IP in her last four starts.

Research on the Roos
Kansas City is 6-21 (2-1 Summit League) this season. At home, the Roos are 2-3. The team is led by hitter Kloe Hilbrenner, who is batting .378 with four home runs and 13 RBI. Mia Hoveland has the team's lowest ERA (5.20). Sydney Nichols and Delainey Fenoglio have hit a combined seven home runs with a combined 28 RBI.

Up Next
The Tommies head to Green Bay, Wis. for a Wednesday doubleheader at the Phoenix. Following the games on Wednesday, St. Thomas hosts South Dakota for its home opener on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10.
