St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas softball (3-16) will travel to Tampa, Fla. to face Ohio State, Purdue, Canisius, Lehigh, and No. 22 South Florida. The USF Invitational marks the final non-conference tournament of the season for the Tommies, as the team heads to Macomb, Ill. to take on Western Illinois on March 26-27.
Chasing No. 700
Coach Trotter is now 21 wins away from 700 career victories. 676 of Trotter's wins came with Missouri Western at the Division II level. Trotter earned her first Division I win in a 6-5 victory against Ball State on Feb. 11.
Last Time Out
The Tommies picked up their third win of the season against Evansville at the Racer Classic in Murray, Ky. St. Thomas won in extras, 5-4, in the bottom of the ninth. The win halted a 13-game losing streak for the team.
Running With the Bulls
Alexis Johns leads South Florida in stolen bases. She's swiped 25 so far this season, which leads the country. South Florida is 22-5 and 19-4 at home in 2022. The Bulls have collected a pair of wins against ranked opponents this season.
Looking at Lehigh
Lehigh enters the tourney with a 4-9 record, led by pitchers #20 Gabriella Nori and #11 Katelyn Young, who each own a 2-4 record.
Checking Out Canisius
Canisius owns an 8-5 record, including 4-1 last weekend. The program is led by #5 Christie McGee-Ross who owns a .465 batting average.
Crawford Enters the Record Books
Freshman pitcher Christina Crawford struck out 19 hitters in the team's win against Evansville. Prior to that performance by the frosh righty, the Tommies previous team high for strikeouts in a game was seven against Bradley (March 6). While St. Thomas is ineligible for NCAA rankings in the program's first year at the Division I level, Crawford's 19 strikeouts would be tied for second in the nation for punch outs in a game.
Raymond Orders the 4-4
Freshman outfielder Kaitlyn Raymond picked up a career-best four base hits against Evansville on March 14. Raymond is one of two Tommies to tally four base hits in a game, joining freshman shortstop Brooke Ellestad (Feb. 11).
Up Next
St. Thomas will begin conference play at Western Illinois on March 26-27. The teams will play a three-game series. It will be the first Summit League competition in program history for St. Thomas.
