2/6/2022 2:21:00 PM | Women's Tennis
Chicago, Ill. – The St. Thomas Women's Tennis Team (0-4) wrapped up its third-straight day of competition on the road with a 4-2 loss to Chicago State (2-5).
"We improved today. Though we didn't take the overall match, the girls fought and fell just short of the win," said Head Coach Lois Arterberry. "Today they overcame some adversity and I was pleased with how poised and composed they remained. We really stepped up and took that doubles point with wins from Team Paradise/ Bremel and Snezhko/ Elnemr. Another good showing from both Jannah and Monty both playing three set matches and Regina winning her first Division 1 singles match."
Freshman Regina Talavera earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 spot her first collegiate point.
Also in singles competition, sophomore Monterey Knewtson forced a three-set match with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 2-1, and went unfinished. In the No. 2 line, sophomore Jannah El Nemr also forced a three-set match with scores of 6-2,4-6, and fell in the third set, 6-2.
The Tommies were able to claim the doubles competition point with senior Olivia Paradise and Bremel defeating Cali Fuller and Sofiya Sedovich, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot. The sophomore duo of Nicole Snezhko and Jannah El Nemr earned a 7-5 defeat of Katarina Dukic and Susana Andres in the No. 3 doubles spot.
"Over this weekend, we got better each match and we have a lot of momentum to use going into our next matches in the next couple of weeks.," Arterberry added.
