Fargo, N.D. -- St. Thomas Women's Basketball fell at North Dakota State, 74-56, Wednesday afternoon in Fargo, N.D.
The Tommies fall to 0-2 in the Summit League after sinking 34.0 percent from the field (18-53) and 29.4 percent from 3-point range (5-17). St. Thomas was outrebounded, 43-27, while Sammy Opichka led the Purple with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
The Tommies answered a game-opening 3-pointer by the Bison with a 6-2 run to nab a one-point lead early. NDSU scored the next five points to take its final lead of the game. Jo Langbehn scored three of her five first-quarter points on an and-one to draw St. Thomas within one, 10-9, as the Bison finished the quarter on a 9-2 run.
After putting in five field goals in the opening quarter, St. Thomas converted just four in the second to fall behind by double digits and face a 37-23 deficit at halftime.
Opichka converted the opening possession of the second half for a layup as part of a 7-2 run. Jordyn Glynn put in an and-one opportunity during the run, drawing the Tommies within single digits again, 37-28. Opichka accounted for three of St. Thomas' first four buckets of the half, but the Tommies failed to score from the floor again until trailing by 22, 56-34, with 1:10 to play in the fourth quarter.
St. Thomas will take an eight-day break before its next Summit League series at home Dec. 29 against South Dakota and Dec. 31 against South Dakota State.
