Bemidji, Minn. -- In a lively CCHA game that was tied on four occasions over the first 44:00 minutes, host Bemidji State held off St. Thomas, 6-4, in Friday night action.

The Beavers (6-4-3 overall, 4-1-2 CCHA) improved to 4-1-2 at home this season. They used goals from five different players to build leads of 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4. They capped off the game with an empty-net goal in the closing 15 seconds.

St. Thomas (4-13-0, 3-8-0) took a first-period lead on Nolan Sawchuk's first goal of the season. After the Purple allowed three goals in a 5:37 stretch of period two to fall behind, they tied the game 3-3 as Mack Byers scored two goals in a 1:08 span near the end of the second frame.

Freshman Josh Eernisse scored early in the third period for the Tommies -- his team-best eighth goal of the season -- to tie the score at 4-4. It was his seventh goal in the last 11 games.

Bemidji outshot the Toms 40-24.

Freshman Aaron Trotter had 34 saves for St. Thomas, which has nine losses by one or two goals. Freshman Ryan O'Neill was credited with three assists, and freshman Lucas Wahlin added two.

The game had tie scores at 0-0, 1-1, 3-3 and 4-4.

St. Thomas scored four or more goals just twice last season, but it has done it three times thus far in 2022-23.

The last three BSU wins over St. Thomas games were either decided in overtime or were one-goal games into the final minute.

Eernisse has already matched Luke Manning's D-I era record for season goals with No. 8.
