St. Thomas welcomes in Western Illinois for lone match of weekend

St. Paul, Minn. -- St. Thomas Volleyball welcomes in Western Illinois to Schoenecker Arena Saturday, Nov. 12. The Tommies are hosting Camper Day with mini volleyball giveaways and autographs from student-athletes following the 11 a.m. match.
 
Tommie Watch
St. Thomas was swept during its final road weekend of the season, Nov. 3 at South Dakota State and Nov. 5 at South Dakota. The Tommies opened the weekend with a loss of 21-25, 13-25, 19-25 to the Jackrabbits before a loss of 21-25, 20-25, 8-25 to the Coyotes.
 
Sophomore Lauren Galvin led the Tommies with 22 kills and a .268 hitting percentage over the weekend. She totaled 12 versus SDSU and 10 against USD and has double-digit kills in nine of the last 10 matches.
 
Freshmen Keya Luta Win Hunt and Allie Kopp tied for the team high with 20 assists each, including 4.0 assists per set for Hunt.
 
Entering Thursday, the Tommies lead the Summit League with 1.75 opponent blocks per set and rank seventh with 1.26 service aces per set. Graduate student Carrie Rutledge ranks sixth in the Summit League with 3.83 digs per set, freshman Emma Goerger ranks tied for eighth with 0.98 blocks per set, and Galvin ranks ninth with 3.19 kills per set.

Sophomore Eva Fitzgerald is 76 assists shy of 500 in her career.
 
Galvin topped 600 career kills Saturday, Oct. 29 versus Denver and topped 400 career digs Thursday, Nov. 3 at South Dakota State.
 
Goerger is currently at 91 career blocks in her freshman season. She leads the team in total blocks by 31.
 
Kopp surpassed 400 career assists Saturday, Nov. 5 at South Dakota and has a team-high 410 in her first season.
 
Rutledge surpassed 600 career digs Thursday versus Omaha and has a team-high 291 this season. She's 19 digs away from a career high 310 set last season.
 
Series History
The Tommies are 1-2 against Western Illinois all-time, most recently beating WIU 3-0 Oct. 15, 2022. St. Thomas is going for its second season sweep of a Summit League opponent over the past two seasons.
 
Scouting Western Illinois
Western Illinois is 4-23 overall and 0-15 in the Summit League after taking sweeps to South Dakota on Nov. 3 and South Dakota State on Nov. 5 on the road. The Leathernecks fell by scores of 15-25, 11-25, 16-25 to the Coyotes on Thursday and 7-25, 12-25, 24-26 to the Jackrabbits on Saturday.
 
The Leathernecks are hitting .123 with 10.37 kills and 9.60 assists per set. WIU is fifth in the Summit League with 15.53 digs per set. Sophomore Brittany Wulf is 34th in the nation with 11.19 attacks per set and sophomore Karli Wenzel is 57th with 4.55 digs per set.
