Volleyball begins second half of Summit League schedule Oct. 20 and 22

St. Paul, Minn. -- The second half of the 2022 Summit League schedule begins Oct. 20 and 22 as St. Thomas Volleyball travels to face North Dakota and North Dakota State.
The Tommies first play the Fighting Hawks at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center in Grand Forks, N.D. The Purple then head down to Fargo, N.D., to face the Bison at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Tommie Watch
St. Thomas ends a four-match road trip at UND and NDSU after splitting the first half of the trip at Kansas City and Western Illinois. The Tommies fell in straight sets to the Roos (24-26, 19-25, 21-25) on Oct. 11 before a three-set win over the Leathernecks (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) on Oct. 15.
The Tommies recorded season-highs in hitting percentage in back-to-back matches, first at .228 against UMKC and setting the new high at .324 against WIU. They marked the third and fourth matches hitting above .200 this season.
Freshman Allie Kopp recorded her team-high fifth double-double of the season with a team-best 17 digs and 13 assists. Sophomore Eva Fitzgerald led the Tommies with 14 assists while sophomore Lauren Galvin paced the squad with 11 kills against the Roos.
Freshman Tezra Rudzitis recorded her first career double-double Saturday with 15 kills and 12 digs, both of which are career highs. Galvin also tied with 15 kills while graduate student Carrie Rutledge paced the squad with 17 digs. Junior Ellie Dammann and freshman Emma Goerger totaled seven kills each and hit .500 and .385, respectively.
Entering Thursday, the Tommies rank second in the league with 1.75 opponent blocks per set, seventh with 1.85 blocks per set and 14.06 digs per set, tied for seventh with 1.34 service aces per set and eighth with 16.68 opponent digs per set. Graduate student Carrie Rutledge ranks fifth in the Summit League with 3.64 digs per set, freshman Emma Goerger ranks tied for eighth with 0.96 blocks per set and Galvin ranks 11th with 3.08 kills per set.
Milestone Tracker
Fitzgerald is 13 assists away from 400 in her career and topped her 2021 season total with 17 against Western Illinois.
Rutledge is 31 digs shy of 600 in her career. She reached the 500 mark Oct. 6 against South Dakota.
Dammann is 10 blocks shy of 150 in her career.
Kopp is 20 assists away from 350 in her freshman season.

The Tommies are 2-1 all-time against North Dakota, falling in straight sets Sept. 24 in the first meeting of 2022.

Scouting North Dakota
North Dakota is 8-11 overall and 5-3 in the Summit League after taking losses Oct. 13 at Omaha in straight sets (22-25, 12-25, 12-25) and Oct. 15 at Denver in five sets (31-29, 12-25, 29-27, 16-25, 13-15).
The Fighting Hawks are hitting .170 with 11.68 kills and 10.69 assists per set. UND is sixth in the league with 1.88 blocks per set. Junior setter Elizabeth Norris leads the Summit League and is sixth in the nation with two triple-doubles. Graduate student Marissa Stockman is ninth in the league with 0.98 blocks per set.
Scouting North Dakota State
North Dakota State is 13-7 overall and 6-2 in the Summit League following a split at Denver Oct. 13 and Omaha and Oct. 15. The Bison swept the Pioneers (25-11, 27-25, 26-24) and fell to the Mavericks (20-25, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25).
The Bison are hitting .261 with 13.96 kills and 12.77 assists per set. NDSU is 17th in the country and lead the Summit League in kills per set and also lead the league in hitting percentage. Senior Michelle Glover is 11th in the nation and second in the Summit League with a .419 hitting percentage while senior Kelley Johnson leads the league with 10.52 assists per set.
