Kansas City takes down Tommie Volleyball in three sets

Kansas City, Mo. -- Freshman Allie Kopp recorded her team-high fifth double-double of the season Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo., as St. Thomas Volleyball fell at Kansas City, 3-0 (24-26, 19-25, 21-25). The Tommies fall to 2-18 overall and 0-8 in the Summit League.
 
Freshman Ava Wild set up sophomore Lauren Galvin for a kill and the first point of the match. The Tommies and Roos traded leads until the Purple took a 11-9 lead. Graduate student Carrie Rutledge pushed the lead to three on a service ace, 14-11. St. Thomas controlled the set with a 22-20 lead before Kansas City ended the game on a 6-2 run and the win in extra points.
 
The Tommies grabbed their first lead of the second set at 7-6, following kills from sophomore Eva Fitzgerald and Wild. The Roos scored eight of the next nine points to separate for the set win.
 
The final set began with seven ties and three lead changes until Kansas City rallied with three straight points and a 14-10 lead. St. Thomas pulled together three straight points late to pull within three, 24-21, before a kill ended the match.
 
Kopp finished with a team-high 17 digs and 13 assists, while Fitzgerald led the team with 14 assists. Galvin finished with a team-best 11 kills.
 
St. Thomas travels Saturday, Oct. 15 to play Western Illinois for its final match of the week.
