Tommies travel to Kansas City for mid-week match

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Volleyball is back on the road Tuesday, Oct. 11 to take on Kansas City at 7 p.m. at the Swinney Center.

Tommie Watch
St. Thomas was handed losses of 3-1 to both South Dakota on Thursday, Oct. 6 and South Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Schoenecker Arena in St. Paul, Minn.
 
The Purple began Thursday's match with an extra point win over the Coyotes, 28-26. Against South Dakota State on Saturday, St. Thomas extended the match with a 25-23 third set win.
 
Sophomore Lauren Galvin led the Tommies with 30 kills and a .195 hitting percentage, and added 18 digs, four assists, one block and one service ace. Her 18 kills against South Dakota is her second-highest total in a single match this season. Galvin was one dig shy of double-doubles in both matches of the weekend.
 
Graduate student Carrie Rutledge led the team with 46 digs and recorded her 500th career dig during the second set of Thursday's match.
 
Freshman Allie Kopp led the Purple in assists during both matches, finishing the weekend with 52. Her 28 assists against SDSU was one shy of her career high.
 
The Tommies rank second in the Summit League with 1.76 opponent blocks per set, seventh with 1.85 blocks per set and tied for seventh with 1.34 service aces per set. Rutledge ranks fifth in the league with 3.56 digs per set, freshman Emma Goerger ranks eighth with 0.97 blocks per set, Kopp ranks 10th with 0.30 service aces per set, and Galvin is 11th with 3.06 kills per set.
 
Series History
The Tommies are 0-2 against Kansas City all-time, losing in straight sets of both matches last season.
 
Scouting Kansas City
Kansas City is 4-15 overall and 1-5 in the Summit League after falling in straight sets against both Denver on Oct. 6 and Omaha on Oct. 8 in Kansas City. The Roos first lost to the Pioneers (20-25, 20-25, 12-25) before finishing the weekend with another three-set match against the Mavericks (19-25, 23-25, 22-25).
 
The Roos are hitting .194 with 11.96 kills and 11.12 assists per set. Kansas City is fourth in the Summit League with 15.06 digs per set, which ranks 87th in the nation, and are fifth in the league in hitting percentage. Senior Kennedy Schritenthal is third in the league with 4.12 digs per set while Junior Odyssey Warren is seventh with 3.22 kills per set.
