30-game schedule set for Men's Basketball in first Division I season

Tommie Men's Basketball has announced its 30-game schedule for its inaugural Division I season of play in 2021-22.
St. Thomas opens the season on the road Tuesday Nov. 9 against Chicago State. The Toms have 12 non-conference games set – including two games in a New York City tourney, on Nov. 13 and 15; three games in the Youngstown tourney, Nov. 26-27; and road tests at Seattle and Drake.
The Purple open their home season Dec. 2 in Schoenecker Arena against Crown College. They play four other home games outside of Summit League play, including a Dec. 11 contest against Montana State.
Summit League Debut
The 18-game Summit League schedule – with home and away games against all nine opponents -- starts Dec. 20 and 22 on the road against Omaha and Denver. In January and February, the Tommies will play conference games either on Thursdays or Saturdays.
The Toms' Summit home opener is set for January 1, 2022 against Western Illinois.
Five days later, they will play at home against Oral Roberts, an NCAA tourney Sweet 16 team in March Madness last spring. Oral Roberts finished just behind South Dakota State, South Dakota and North Dakota State in last winter's Summit League's men's basketball standings, but the Tulsa, Okla., university won the league's postseason tournament.
Seven of the Toms' first 12 Summit games are on the road, with four of the final six set for Schoenecker Arena.
Coach Johnny Tauer, who starts his 11th season with St. Thomas, averaged 23 victories for each complete season of his Division III era. His 14-player roster for this winter includes nine returners and five newcomers. Three players have transferred from scholarship programs to add experience and depth.
