Haire 10th in 10K to lead Men's Track and Field at NCAAs

St. Thomas Women's Track and Field advanced its 4x100 relay team into Saturday's finals Thursday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C., at the NCAA Division III Championships.
The unit of freshman Tay Walgrave, sophomore Maddy Dolby, senior Delaney McLoone, and freshman Sarah Stellmach clocked a season- best time of 47.54 to take the eighth and final spot into the finals.
Senior Sara Miller finished 10th out of 18 runners in the 10,000 meters in 37:21.
Leading the men on Thursday was sophomore Zach Haire who placed 10th out of 18 in the 10,000 in 30:58.8.
In the track prelims, athletes not advancing were Paige Cater in the 400 hurdles (64.93); Eric Douville in the 200 dash (21.76); and Morey Smith in the 1,500 (3:55.0).
In the field events, Cameron Schulz in the pole vault didn't clear his opening height, and Megan Gehrke was unable to make the finals or crack the top 15 in the discus. She will compete Saturday in the shot put.
Two athletes compete in Friday prelims: Maxwell Gifford in the 800, and Walgrave in the 100 hurdles.

Eleven of the 15 qualifiers for St. Thomas Track and Field athletes are set to compete Thursday May 27 in Greensboro, N.C., at the NCAA Division III Championships.
Two others are set to compete in Friday prelims, and four athletes will compete in throwing events Saturday morning and early afternoon.
