San Luis Obispo, Calif. – North Texas State moved to 4-2 on the season as it rode a big day behind the arc to pull away to an 81-54 non-conference women's basketball victory over St. Thomas in Saturday's final day of the Cal Poly tournament in San Luis Obispo, Calif..
The Mean Green, a 13-7 finisher last season, made eight 3-point baskets in the first half in building a 23-point halftime lead.
On the day, the Conference USA team outscored the Tommies 30-6 in 3-point baskets; had only 10 turnover; received 40 bench points; and shot 48 percent from the floor.
Freshman point guard Jade Hill led the Purple with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists with only one turnover in 30 minutes. Fellow freshman Jo Langbehn posted St. Thomas' first Division I double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kate Burns chipped in nine points.
The Tommies (1-5) had a solid day in rebounding with just a 44-43 deficit, and had only 13 turnovers. But the Purple never led in the contest. They were unable to overcome cold shooting, including 33 percent from the field -- including 2-of-14 from 3-point range -- and 6-of-14 at the foul line.
Hill averaged 12.5 ppg on the two-game tourney, and was among four players named to the All-Tournament team.
