St. Thomas Volleyball falls in three to Kansas City

Kansas City, Mo. – St. Thomas Volleyball continued its Summit League play on Thursday in Kansas City, Mo., the Tommies fell to the Roos 3-0, by scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-17.
Kansas City came out hitting lights out, connecting on .667 of its attacking attempts in the opening set. The Roos recorded 16 kills on 24 attacking attempts.
In the second set, the Tommies hit .185, recording nine kills on 27 attacking attempts. Freshman Lander Freiderichs recorded one block in the set.
St. Thomas posted a .133 hitting percentage in the third and final set, recording 10 kills on 33 attacking attempts. Additionally, the Tommies recorded two blocks in the final set, a solo block by sophomore Ellie Dammann, and an assisted block by seniors Grace Anetipa and Fran Egan.
Individually, freshman Lauren Galvin led the St. Thomas offensive attack with 12 kills. Defensively, senior Carrie Rutledge led the receiving efforts with seven digs. Anetipa added a team-best 15 assists in the match.
The Tommies return to action Saturday as they face Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
