St. Thomas Women's Soccer (4-12-1) fell 1-0 on a penalty-kick decision to North Dakota State University (3-12-1) on Sunday. Although the Toms had an advantage in shots, the penalty whistled during the 102nd minute gave the Bison the chance and they converted.

The growth that the Tommies have made in offensive pressure throughout the season was evident during the match. They displayed an elevated speed of play and strong connections between passes that led to the creation of 43 shots with 16 on goal. Their dominating presence on the attack made it tough for NDSU to get the ball out of their territory.

On the defensive end for St. Thomas, the back line was strong and aggressive, denying the Bison's attempts to advance and protecting the goal from all corners faced. They were led by junior Audrey Vidmar, who put in outstanding work as a center back. Sophomore goalie Olivia Graupmann had eight saves for the Toms.

Nineteen Tommie players saw time during the match. Their fantastic chemistry on the field, support of each other, and intense play is largely due to the influence of the eight seniors honored this afternoon. Head coach Sheila McGill said, "Our senior class exhibits phenomenal leadership. They are an extraordinary group of women who got to go to the NCAA Elite Eight in Division III, help us transition to Division I, and whose leadership is what made this team come together and get to where it is today. Throughout the entire season, they were constantly bringing us together as a team, both on and off the field. These seniors helped bring us to the style of play we wanted and continued to lead and teach our other players in a fantastic way."

Tommie Women's Soccer is grateful for everything that Alex Balfour, Maddie Bomsta, Natalie Engel, Kristen Epperly, Mari Ferrer-Lugo, Alexa Oldenkamp, Gaba Palazzo, and Lexi Serreyn gave to the program.

This was the last game of the season for the women. They were the first team in St. Thomas history to get a Division I win, which came on August 29 against Chicago State. They had five shutouts and finished in the Summit League above their predicted preseason spot. This is just the start of a very successful Division I future for Tommie Women's Soccer.
