Spring Senior Spotlight: Baseball's Josh Thorp

EDITOR'S NOTE: Approximately 55 Tommie senior student-athletes in the spring sports of track and field, tennis, golf, baseball and softball had their 2020 seasons abruptly end with the Covid-19 outbreak. Although the NCAA and MIAC have kept opened the chance for seniors to return in 2021 if they remain as undergrad or graduate students here, nearly all plan to graduate and move on into their post-college careers. We will spotlight each of the St. Thomas spring seniors over the coming weeks on Tommiesports.com

Tommie Career Highlights: Batted .444 in seven games in 2020 with 12 hits, nine runs and 11 RBI, including nine extra-base hits, before the season was shut down by the Covid-19 outbreak.
In 82 career games batted .293 with 72 hits, 41 runs, 47 RBI, 16 walks, 18 doubles, eight triples and five home runs.
Made All-MIAC as a freshman.
Did You Know?: Josh posted an impressive 1.037 slugging percentage in 2020 with five triples, a home run and three doubles in just seven games.
Coach Chris Olean's Tribute: "Josh is the most athletically gifted player on our team. Josh can run with our fastest guys but is also amongst our strongest players in the weight room. He has easy POP at the plate, and once the ball gets in the gap, he can get out and run! In the outfield he did not have a lot of experience coming in, and he struggled out there at first. However, Josh made a point of it to improve, and this year he was a lockdown left fielder for us! Josh was another player who was on the verge of a huge season, leading the team in almost every offensive category before the season was cut short. Most importantly I am proud of how Josh matured as a person. You could see his love for the game come through this year, and his teammates noticed as well! I believe Josh was on pace to be an All-American this season and one of the better D-III players in the country!"
