Softball opens season with split at Rochester

With four newcomers in the lineup, No. 9-ranked Tommie Softball split a doubleheader in the Rochester Dome to open the 2020 season. Nebraska Wesleyan rallied to edge the Toms 4-3, then UST rallied from 3-0 down to top Dubuque, 6-3.

Nebraska Wesleyan had timely hits, grouping three hits among four batters in both the fifth abd seventh innings.
Kierstin Anderson-Glass pitched all seven innings giving up four runs with nine strikeouts.
Elise Barnes had a hit, walk, two steals and two runs scored. Sam Birling went 1-2 with an RBI double.
Freshman Paige Heitkamp had a two-run single in the first inning.
UST 6, Dubuque 3
After allowing three runs in the second inning, St. Thomas shut Dubuque down the rest of the wayKendall Hopkins came on for five-plus relief innings, giving up just three hits with four strikeouts and no runs scored. Sarah Hudson had a big day with a pair of RBI doubles and a single.
Freshman C.J. Jacobson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Bridget Armstrong and Annie Naughton each had two each hits.
