Tommie Men's Hockey scored four goals from four different players in a 16:30 mid-game span Friday night and held off a late challenge to defeat St. John's 4-2 in MIAC play in St. Cloud.
Henry Baribeau stopped 26 of 28 shots in goal and Brett Gravelle scored his 100th and 101st career points with two assists for St. Thomas (9-7-3 overall, 6-4-1 MIAC).
The teams play again Saturday (7 p.m.) on the Tommies' home ice in Mendota Heights. With five games left in the conference season, the Toms sit in a three-way tie for third place with Gustavus and Bethel, one oint ahead of sixth-place St. John's, in the chase for one of five playoff spots. Bethel has played 13 games to 11 for the other teams, so its conference scoring potential is capped.
Coming off its bye weekend, St. Thomas never trailed and outshot the Johnnies 46-28.
John Peterson broke a 0-0 tie with his goal 5:03 into the second period. Johnny Panvica and Justin Kelley scored power-play goals later in the second frame for a 3-0 lead. Spencer Zwiener scored early in period three to push the lead to 4-0.
Panvica has scored six goals in his last four games.
