Tommie Women's Basketball coach Ruth Sinn announced Thursday that three preferred walk-ons, all incoming freshmen, have signed to join her first NCAA Division I recruiting class.
Iowa native Sydney Mitvalsky (Cedar Rapids Washington High) and Wisconsin natives Phoebe Frentzel (Arrowhead High) and Audrey Hatfield (Hudson High) join a group of Class of 2021 women's basketball signees that Sinn announced on Wednesday
"I am extremely excited to welcome Phoebe, Audrey, and Sydney into our St. Thomas Women's Basketball program," Sinn said. "These young women are great representations of what it means to chase comprehensive excellence. They are leaders in their communities and they lead with inclusion and passion. Their actions represent a commitment to the common good. These women will be wonderful stewards of our program. They are exceptional student athletes, who strive for excellence in all they do on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. I know they will be a great addition to our program and I look forward to working with them next year."
The Tommies received NCAA approval last July to make an unprecedented direct move of all of its varsity sports from non-scholarship NCAA Division III into Division I.
Starting in fall 2021, St. Thomas Women's Basketball will be among 19 sports competing in the Summit League. The Tommies will also have teams in the Pioneer Football League for football; its women's hockey team in the Women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA); and its men's hockey team in the inaugural season of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
