Good start, rough finish leads to split for Baseball

Tommie Baseball split a road doubleheader with Hamline Saturday at St. Paul's CHS Field. The Toms won the opener 11-5 but dropped a 6-3 decision in game two.
St. Thomas (17-12 overall, 9-7 MIAC) will need a strong finish to reach the four-team conference playoffs. They are scheduled to play doubleheaders Monday at Concordia-Moorhead (2:30 p.m. start) and Saturday at home against Augsburg (1 p.m. start).
In game one, Henry DeCaster (5-2) allowed no earned runs, four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. He left with an 11-1 lead as St. Thpomas slapped 14 hits. Jake Husnick went 3-for-3; Kyle Halverson drove in four runs with two hits; and Ryan Lust and Matt Dolan each had two hits.
The Toms built a 3-0 lead in game two but couldn't hold down the Pipers. Dan Bolingberg went 3-for-3 and Lust added two hits. The Purple had nine hits but hit into two double plays.
