Joey Stock drilled a three-run homer in the opener and a solo shot in game two to lead St. John's to a 5-4, 1-0 MIAC baseball sweep of St. Thomas Tuesday at Koch Diamond.
St. Thomas (16-10 overall, 8-5 MIAC) outhit St. John's in each game -- 10-5 and 6-4 -- but dropped out of the conference lead with seven games to play. The Toms have six losses by one-run or in extra innings.
Gustavus swept Hamline on Tuesday and moved into first place at 9-4. The Johnnies (11-5), St. Mary's (10-6), St. Thomas, St. Olaf (8-6), Bethel (7-7) and Macalester (7-7) are among the top seven with under two weeks to go in the 20-game conference race.
St. Thomas travels to Gustavus on Wednesday to resume a suspended game tied 5-5 after 10 innings.
Sam Cobbs went 3-for-5 with two walks on the day and Jake Husnick had a solo home run to lead the Tommie offense,
Andrew Tri allowed one run in eight innings in game two but took the loss. Graham Laubscher allowed an RBI triple and three-run homer. He blanked the Johnnies over the final four innings but the Toms' comeback fell short.
