Christensen's NCAA B cut time leads Women's Swim-Dive

St. Thomas Men's and Women's Swim-Dive teams each had one first, one second and one third place at the multi-team Rochester (Minn.) Invite.
The Toms also had athletes competing Friday and Saturday at the Macalester Invite in St. Paul.
The Toms just had a few distance swimmers competing Sunday. Gretchen Behrens placed second in the 1650 free (17:45.40). On the men's side Tommies had a 4-5-8 finish with Adam Boerner (16:44.51); Sam Johnson (16:59.55); and Nate Ruegemer (17:10.86).
Senior Ashley Christensen hit an NCAA meet B cut qualifying time with her best of 64.28 which ranks 13th best nationally.
The Toms just had a few distance swimmers competing Sunday. Gretchen Behrens placed second in the 1650 free (17:45.40), a time that ranks first in the MIAC and 34th in the conferences.
On the men's side, the Tommies had a 4-5-8 finish with Adam Boerner (16:44.51); Sam Johnson (16:59.55); and Nate Ruegemer (17:10.86).
Saturday Highlights
- Nate Stone (1:54.65), Andrew Ackermann (1:58.37) and Lucas Manke (1:59.91) placed 1-5-10 in the 200 fly.
- The Tommie men took fourth place in the 200 medley (1:34.42)
- Adam Boerner (4:47.92) placed fifth in the 500 free and Sam Johnson (4:50.97) and Nate Ruegemer (4:51.66) had fast times in the B section finals
- Garrett Riley placed fifth in the 50 free (21.51) and Michael Foss was 11th (22:03)
- Noah Faldet took fourth in the 100 breaststroke (57.38)
- John Gahnz (52.85) and Grant Toenges (53.48) placed 6-7 in the 100 back
- Johnson, Boerner and McGrath all broke 1:48 times in the 300 free with top-10 finishes
- Jake Appino clocked 54.43 in the 100 IM
The Tommie women took fourth place in the 200 medley (1:48.17)
- Ashley Christensen won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.55) with the best time among 24 finalists
- Kasey Ericson (5:11.07 and Gretchen Behrens (5:12.68) placed 3-5 in the 500 free
- Ericson also placed seventh in the 200 free (1:57.70)
- Anna Astrup (2:10.06) placed fifth and Paige Pawlenty (2:12.03) took ninth in the 200 fly

Mac Invite
The St. Thomas men with a partal squad outscored Hamline and Macalester to take first place of three teams.
The Tommie women with a partial squad placed third of five teams.
Men's winners for St. Thomas were:
- Joey Vacura in the 200 IM (2:01.07)
- Hunter Neilsen in the 50 free (22.30)
- Luke Anderson in the 400 IM (4:32.14)
- Will Goldman in the 100 breaststroke (60.17) and 200 breaststroke (2:13.19)
- CJ Hansen in the 100 back (54.17) and 200 back (2:01.21)
- Tyler Langstraat in the 100 free (49.60)
- The 800 free relay (7:16.68) with Tyler Heckman, Langstarat, Neilsen and Mark Voss
- The 200 free relay (1:30.35) Langstraat, Neilsen, Hansen and Vacura
Women's winners winners for St. Thomas were:
- Peyton Ekman won three-meter diving (361.35) and one-meter diving (368.20)
- Hailey Buchanan in the 200 free (1:58.57)
