Freshman helps Men's Hoops start season in win column

Freshman Will Engels made his college debut and had 15 points and nine rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench to help No. 15-ranked St. Thomas Men's Basketball end Whitman College's 17-game home-court win streak with Thursday night's 87-79 win in Walla Walla, Wash.
Sophomore guard Anders Nelson had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists; Ryan Lindberg had 12 points; Tommy Anderson added 12 points and three steals; Kevin Cunningham added 10 points; and Elijah Hannah chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
The Tommies (1-0) outrebounded Whitman (1-1) 46-26, and shot 54 percent from the floor.
St. Thomas plays Saturday night at 3-0 Whitworth in nearby Spokane.
