Volleyball wins pair, tops No. 2 Eagles

Tommie Volleyball ran its win streak to five matches with a 2-0 start Friday at the Augsburg Invite. The Toms scored a 3-0 win over St. Scholastica and came back with a hard-fought 3-0 defeat of No. 2-ranked Northwestern-St. Paul.
It was the first loss of the season for Northwestern (4-1), an NCAA national semifinalist last season.
In defeating the Eagles, UST fought off four set points at 24-22, 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 to rally and win set one 28-26. They closed out the victory with 25-23 and 25-21 wins.
Ellie Etzell had 12 kills; Madie Kroehler added 10 kills and 10 digs; Ellie Meyer had 13 digs; Whitney Lloyd had five blocks; and Katharine Mallak added 24 assists and eight digs.
UST topped St. Scholastica 25-14, 25-9, 25-15. The Toms hit .279 and used 17 players in that victory.
St. Thomas plays nationally-ranked UW-La Crosse at 11 a.m. on Saturday, faces UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
