Sat Wrap: FB, Soccer, VBall go 5-0 on Saturday

St. Thomas went 5-0 in Saturday competitions in soccer, football, and volleyball.
UST Women's Golf is in first place at the Carleton tourney.
Tommie Men's Golf starts a three-day tournament Sunday in Florida.
Men's Soccer
St. Thomas scored a goal each half and topped visiting Bethel 2-0 Saturday at South Field to move to 1-0-1 in the conference and 5-0-2 on the season.
Mark Heydt (penalty kick) and Christian Elliehausen scored for UST. Aidan Hogan (2-0) was in net for the shutout. UST has outscored seven opponents 14-4.
The Toms play at home Sunday against UW-Superior (3:30 p.m.).
Women's Soccer
Senior Tarynn Theilig recorded her fifth shutout in as many games this season as No. 20-ranked St. Thomas scored a 3-0 win over Wartburg (Iowa) in Saturday non-conference play at South Field.
Sis different Toms had a goal or an assist. Elizabeth Luotto scored her first collegiate goal, and McKenna Peplinski and Brielle Bierman also tallied goals.
The Toms (5-0) play Wednesday at St. Ben's (4 p.m.).
Volleyball
St. Thomas ran their winning streak to five and capped a 4-0 run at the UW-Eau Claire tourney with two Saturday victories. UST topped Lakeland in three sets and St. Norbert in four sets. On Friday, the Toms edged No. 10-ranked UW-Stevens Point, 3-2, and beat St Norbert, 3-1.
The Tommies (9-4) play their first home match Wednesday against St. Catherine (7 p.m.).
Football
No. 4-ranked St. Thomas scored three touchdowns in the game's first 6:34 on the clock en route to a 62-10 defeat of visiting Carleton in MIAC football play Saturday at Palmer Field in O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
The Tommies (3-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) had five touchdowns of 47 or more yards, all in the first half as they led 48-3 after two quarters.
Senior Joe Reed had TD receptions of 47 and 62 yards from senior QB Alex Fenske. Freshman Josh Parks had TD runs of 70 and 57 yards. Junior Tanner Vik caught a 61-yard TD pass from sophomore QB Jacques Perra.
St. Thomas had no punts, rolled up 614 yards, and averaged 10 yards a play. Nine different Toms scored points. Seventeen Tommies had eiher a rush or reception, and more than 110 UST players were inserted into the game.
The Tommie defense had an interception from Adam Kraft; 11 tackles for loss; and forced nine punts while limiting Carleton to 161 net offensive yards. That included 44 net rushing yards on 36 carries.
Women's Golf
St. Thomas shot a season-best 304 and holds a seven-shot lead over Carleton after day one of the 17-team Division III Classic in Lake City. The tourney concludes Sunday with 18 holes.
The Knights have beaten UST by more than 20 strokes in each of the last two weekends and are expected to push the Tommies again on Sunday.
Marja Sorensen (73), Rachel Morris (75) and Emily Thul (77) led the Toms on the first day.
