Softball pushed, but wins MIAC tourney

Freshman Kierstin Anderson-Glass threw a seven-hit shutout and finished 3-0 on the weekend as No. 12-ranked Tommie Softball scored a 6-0 win over St. Catherine in Sunday's championship game of the MIAC Playoffs at UST's South Field.
The Tommies (38-6) are in the NCAA playoffs for the 13th year in a row and 18th time in the last 19 seasons. They will learn their playoff assignment on Monday.
This was UST's 12th conference playoff championship in the 13-year history of the format, all under Coach John Tschida. UST improved to 40-4 all-time in the MIAC Playoffs.
Anderson-Glass allowed two runs in her first two innings on the mound on Friday but threw 22 shutout innings thereafter to beat Hamline, 3-2 in 10 innings, and blank St. Catherine 3-0 on saturday and 6-0 on Sunday.
The freshman pitcher improved to 24-6 on the season and has 198 strikeouts to just 17 walks and an 0.93 ERA.
The Wildcats won 5-4 in Sunday's first game to force a rematch for the title of the double-elimination tourney. UST pulled within one run in the final inning and loaded the bases but was unable to score the tying run.
A four-run third inning in game two propelled the Tommies. Brenna Walek hit a two-run single and Anderson-Glass added an RBI single.
Walek stroked her 33rd career home run in the game-one loss.
