Isaac Rosefelt gets pro honor in Israel

11/8/2014 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Former St. Thomas basketball All-America center Isaac Rosefelt has been named Player of the Month in the top professional league in Israel.

"Ike is off to a phenomenal start this season," said St. Thomas coach John Tauer.

Rosefelt is one of several UST basketball alums who have or are still playing overseas. Joe Scott is also currently playing in Germany; Will DeBerg played last season in France; Tommy Hannon played last season in Australia.

In recent years, Teddy Archer and Anders Halvorsen played in Spain, and Bryan Schnettler played for the Rochester team in the ABA.

"We are extremely proud of all of our alums who are working in a variety of industries and professions," Tauer said. "Isaac's recent award is a reflection of the years of hard work he has invested into his professional career. Not many Division III players play professionally, and even more rare is a lengthy career like Isaac's that has him excelling in the top league in Israel against countless players from top Division I programs.
"Isaac has remained close to the program and is a great example of the loyalty and hard work of our alums.
"Whether it is Mike Keating, Alex McCoy, and Lonnie Robinson, three recent alums who are coaching within our program, or the outstanding play of Isaac, or the successes and milestones of numerous other alums, we are proud of all their successes. The fact that so many of them stay so closely tied to St. Thomas is a reflection of the family atmosphere in UST Hoops, a tradition we are excited to continue as we look forward to an exciting 2014-15 season."
