Huge late run lifts Men's Hoops

No. 13-ranked Tommie Men's Basketball sank 14-of-22 from 3-point range and had five players score in double figures in Thursday night's 96-86 road victory at Whitman (Wash.).
It's the second game this week that St. Thomas (2-0) erased a double-digit second-half deficit.
UST used a 28-12 run to erase a 69-55 second-half Whitman lead. The game was tied 73-73 with 6:00 to go but the Tommies used a 16-4 run over the next four minutes to take control. St. Thomas scored 41 points over the game's final 12:00.
Marcus Alipate sank six 3-pointers and had 21 points; Taylor Montero scored 20; Cortez Tillman had 18 points; Grant Shaeffer added 16 points, three steals and three assists; and Conner Nord closed with 14 points and six rebounds.
Whitman shot 61 percent from the floor but was outrebounded 28-20, including a 9-1 edge for the Toms in offensive rebounds. St. Thomas had a 15-0 advantage in second-chance points.
UST shot 55 percent from the field and 79 percent from the line in addition to the 63-percent clip from 3-point range.
The Toms will conclude the trip with Saturday night's game at No. 17-ranked Whitworth.
