Fast start fuels big home win for W. Hoops

Maggie Weiers scored 17 points and Taylor Young added 13 points as the host Tommie women's basketball team scored a 61-32 win over St. Catherine in Saturday's women's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.

No. 19-ranked St. Thomas (13-3 overall, 11-2 MIAC) raced to a 14-0 lead and took a 36-12 advantage into halftime. They posted a 36-21 rebounding edge and shot 50 percent from the floor.

LaShay Holt had 11 points and five steals for the Wildcats (3-12, 2-10).

St. Thomas remains in a tie dfor second with Concordia-Moorhead, one-game behind first-place St. Mary's, a road winner at St. Ben's.

UST plays Wednesday at Macalester.
