3-pointers fuel W. Hoops' road win

The No. 12-ranked Tommies knocked down 10-of-14 baskets from 3-point range, five by soph guard Katie Stone, in Wednesday night's 79-52 women's basketball road victory over Gustavus.
St. Thomas (11-2 overall, 9-1 MIAC), which shot 54 percent from the floor, has won 11 of its last 12 games. The host Gusties (6-6, 3-6) were outscored 30-3 from 3-point range.
The Tommies kept a one-half game lead on St. Mary's and Bethel (8-1 each) atop the conference standings.
A 9-0 Tommie run midway through the first half built a 19-12 lead. A late 10-3 run put UST ahead 39-25 at halftime. A 12-0 run early in the second half pushed the St. Thomas lead past 20 points.
Stone had 19 points, Maggie Weiers contributed 17 points and six rebounds, Taylor Young scored 14 points, and Kelly Brandenburg added 11 points.
The Toms are home Saturday (1 p.m.) to face Concordia-Moorhead.
