Near upset, but Men's Tennis falls
5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis
The Tommie men's tennis team fell just short of an upset in Saturday's MIAC Playoff semifinal round. Third-seeded St. Thomas won all three doubles matches but lost 5-4 to second-seed Carleton Saturday in St. Peter. UST ended its season 11-6.
The Toms lost a 7-2 decision to Carleton just six days earlier.
The match was deadlocked 4-4 with No. 5 singles left to decide the outcome. UST's Allen-Michael Muench lost the first game and trailed 5-2 before scoring four consecutive points to stay alive. But he was unable to force a third set and eventually lost 6-3, 7-6.
Brendan O'Connell won at first singles and at first doubles with Mitchell Blackey to lead the Toms.
