Baseball splits Dome pair with No. 21 Saints

Junior transfer Tyler Peterson went 4-for-4 and junior Steve Maher pitched two scoreless innings for a save as the Tommie baseball team scored a 6-3 win over St. Scholastica in game two for a split of their Monday twinbill in the Metrodome.
UST sophomore Jack Hogan went 4-for-4 in game one but the Saints won 3-2. UST stranded nine runners including the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the top of the seventh inning.
CSS junior Thomas Rogers got a strikeout to close out the game and earn his second save of the season.
No. 2-ranked St. Thomas (3-1) had nine hits in the opener and 12 hits in game two but stranded 17 runners on the day.
In game two, St. Thomas junior J.D. Dorgan had a pair of run-scoring singles and Ryan Gerber had an RBI double.
The No. 21-ranked Saints (2-2) were held to one hit and no runs in the first five innings in game one and trailed 1-0. But CSS used four singles and two walks off three UST pitchers to plate three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kyle Jensen worked a 17-pitch walk as he won a terrific battle with UST pitcher Tommy Danczyk to score the go-ahead run.
Jake Caserato had three hits and a walk on the day including a game-two solo homer to lead the Saints' offense.
