W.Hoops breaks out in second half, wins 71-58

The No. 10-ranked Tommie women (27-1) used a 17-1 run midway through the second half to erase a 45-41 deficit en route to a win over Martin Luther College (20-8) in Friday night's NCAA first-round playoff game at Schoenecker Arena.
Maggie Weiers had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Taylor Young had 14 points and eight rebounds as St. Thomas ran its win streak to 27 and improved to 14-0 at home this season.
It was the first NCAA playoff victory for UST women's hoops in 11 seasons.
The Tommies survived 17-of-30 shooting from the foul line as they posted a 51-35 rebounding advantage. Haley Loesch scored all nine of her points in the second half and helped UST roll up a 23-12 advantage in bench points.
Erica Babinec scored 23 points for the Knights, who shot just 30 percent from the floor but stayed in the game all 40 minutes with only 10 turnovers and 17-of-21 foul shooting.
St. Thomas plays Coe Saturday at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the round of 16.

Coe 72, UW-River Falls 61
The Kohawks (21-7) shot 56 percent from the floor and got 21 points from Kayla Waskow in Friday night's 72-61 women's basketball win over UW-River Falls (21-7) in first-round NCAA playoff action at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
