Taylor Young scored 14 points and the No. 14-ranked Tommies (24-1 overall, 22-0 MIAC) shot 58 percent from the field in Saturday's 64-51 win over St. Mary's in MIAC women's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies ran their winning streak to 24 and became just the fifth conference women's team to finish 20-0 or 22-0 on the regular season. The only other 22-0 women's finisher was St. Thomas in 1999-2000.
St. Thomas is 11-0 at home this season and hasn't lost since Nov. 16 at nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point in its season opener.
UST build a 32-24 halftime lead and led by as many as 16 in the second half. The Toms had a 34-8 advantage in bench points. Sarah Smith scored 12 points and Kelly Brandenburg added 10. Kellie Ring chipped in eight points on 4-of-4 shooting plus three assists and three steals.
Jamie Stefely had a game-high 21 points for the Cardinals (13-12, 13-9).
