Nance clutch play helps M.Hoops hold on

Junior forward John Nance scored a game-high 20 points, including a clutch three-point play with 46
seconds left, to lead the host Tommies (16-6 overall, 13-4 MIAC) past the Cobbers (7-16, 5-13) in Saturday's MIAC men's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies clinched a conference playoff berth and remained one game behind first-place Gustavus with three games left in the MIAC race. St. Thomas needs two wins in its final three games to secure a first-round playoff bye.
Brandon Fisher's rainbow 3-point basket with 1:01 left pulled Concordia within 53-52. After a time out, Nance drove to the basket, drew contact gor the bank shot and foul, and converted the free throw. Nance closed with five points during a game-closing 9-2 run in the final 1:00.
UST shot 54 percent from the floor (22-of-41) and had only 12 turnovers. The Tommies, who played without starter Noah Kaiser (illness), also knocked down 13-of-15 at the foul line. Zach Riedeman scored 12 points and Erik Tengwall had eight points and three steals.
Ebo Nana-Kweson had 16 points, Fisher had 11 points and Jason Huus added nine rebounds for the Cobbers.
St. Thomas is home Monday to play Carleton, plays Wednesday at Bethel, and closes at home next Saturday vs. St. Mary's.
