Comeback win starts Baseball sweep of Auggies

Matt McQuillan's walkoff RBI single capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and let the Player pic host Tommies post an 8-7 victory over Augsburg in game one of Thursday's MIAC baseball twinbill at St. Thomas' Koch Diamond.

The Tommies won game two 3-1 to complete the sweep and run their win streak to seven.

The Toms (15-13 overall, 8-4 MIAC) are 8-0 at home this season.

Tayler Rahm had three hits in the opener but went 0-for-3 in game two to end his hitting streak at 16 games. Freshman Tim Kuzniar had three hits in game one.

UST rallied from a 4-0 deficit and later broke a 5-5 tie. After the Auggies scored twice in the top of the seventh, the Tommies used three walks, an error and McQuillan's one-out bases-loaded single to claim the victory.

Player pic In game two, UST scored three runs with just four hits, three walks, one error and two sacrifice bunts. Tony Eicher worked four innings with one run allowed for his first win of the season. John Licht threw shutout ball over the last three frames for his second save of the season.

The Toms are scheduled to play one nine-inning game Monday at St. Scholastica, then play two MIAC games Tuesday at Concordia-Moorhead.
