No. 1-ranked UW-Whitewater had no turnovers and played a near flawless game and posted a 20-0 win over St. Thomas in Saturday's NCAA Division III semifinal playoff game in Whitewater.
The Tommies (13-1), who fell behind 17-0 at halftime, were limited to 214 total yards and were shutout for the first time in the four-year Glenn Caruso era.
St. Thomas had three drives move to UWW 30-yad line or deeper but came away with no points. UWW was able to double team ace WR Fritz Waldvogel and keep him from being a factor as he was held under 100 all-purpose yards.
The UST defense limited National Player of the Year Levell Coppage to 110 rushing yards, well under his season average. St. Thomas blocked a field goal late in the first half but was unable to make enough plays to make a run at an upset.
Whitewater (14-0) advances to yet another championship game rematch with Mount Union.
