No. 8-ranked St. Thomas split two volleyball matches Saturday and finished 1-2 on the weekend at the Wittenberg Tournament in Springfield, Ohio.
The Toms topped Cal Lutheran in four sets, 17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-14, and lost to No. 14-rated UW-Whitewater in four sets, 25-18, 28-26, 11-25, 25-20.
Wittenberg went 3-0 on the weekend for first place.

No. 8-ranked St. Thomas opens its 2010 volleyball season Friday night with a three-set loss to No. 11-ranked Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio. Wittenberg won 25-17, 25-19, 28-26.
St. Thomas returns eight of its top 10 players from a 26-8 team of 2009. Wittenberg (24-8), Whitewater (31-7) and Cal Lutheran (21-12) also are coming off strong seasons.
