Three St. Thomas teams -- softball, men's tennis and women's tennis -- are set to start MIAC playoff competition this weekend.

Rain has postponed Friday's games in the MIAC softball playoffs in Mankato. The tourney will now run Saturday and Sunday. Tennis matches are still on and will be moved indoors if needed.

Softball

The four-team, double-elimination MIAC softball playoffs are now scheduled to start Saturday in Mankato. In noon first-round games, top-seed St. Thomas faces fourth-seed St. Olaf, while second-seed Gustavus faces third-seed Bethel.

The losers play a 2 p.m. elimination game, while the winners play a 2 p.m. winners' bracket game. Another elimination game is set for 4 p.m. The tourney concludes Sunday with an 11 a.m. championship game and if needed a 1 p.m. rematch.

No. 24-ranked St. Thomas (34-6) has won 32 of its last 34 games and closed out a 21-1 conference finish last week. They topped St. Olaf two weeks ago 4-0 and 2-1, the latter game in eight innings. They also beat the Oles 9-1 in five innings in March in a tournament.

UST is 7-0 this season against the other three playoff teams, although three of the games were decided by one run or in extra innings.

Men's Tennis

Third-seed St. Thomas opens play Friday in the single-elimination MIAC Playoffs in St. Peter. The Toms face six-seed Macalester at 3 p.m. With a win, St. Thomas plays Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the semifinals.

St. Thomas has qualified for the fourth time since the six-team postseason format was initiated four years ago. UST (11-5) has won nine of 11 matches vs. Minnesota foes. They are seeded third, led by Andy Michels in doubles (12-3) and Brendan O'Connell (12-3 in singles, 10-3 in doubles).

Women's Tennis

Fourth-seed St. Thomas opens play Friday in the single-elimination MIAC Playoffs in St. Peter. The Toms face fifth-seed St. Ben's at noon. With a win, St. Thomas plays Saturday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals.

St. Thomas has qualified for the fourth time since the six-team postseason format was initiated four years ago.

The UST women, seeded fourth, have three 5-4 defeats in their 11-5 start. Two seniors are winding down successful careers -- Alison Bruflodt is 54-19 in singles and 48-28 in doubles over four seasons, while Hadley Syverud is 41-13 in singles and 56-15 in doubles.
