MIAC Playoff time: Women's Hoops starts tonight

Three Tommie teams have MIAC playoff games this week. Many will be held in St. Paul, but all will be off campus.

Women's Basketball

The Tommie women (18-7 overall) are seeded fifth and play Monday night at No. 4-seed Macalester in the six-team conference playoffs. The Scots are making their first trip in the 10-year history of the MIAC women's playoffs. The Tommies are making their 23rd postseason appearance in the last 24 years.

Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at Mac's Leonard Center. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students. MIAC passes are accepted but no others.

The winner plays in Wednesday's MIAC semifinals, most likely at top-seed St. Ben's otherwise at No. 2 seed Gustavus, while the loser's season ends.

Men's Basketball

The No. 3-ranked Tommie men (23-2 overall) are seeded first and have a Tuesday bye in the six-team conference playoffs. They will play at home (CU's Gangelhoff Center) Thursday in the MIAC semifinals against either Carleton, Hamline or St. John's.

It's the 11th consecutive MIAC playoff trip for the Tommies -- the longest cuurent streak in the conference for men's or woimens' teams.

Tipoff is 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students. MIAC passes are accepted but no others. A student bus will run from Flynn Hall at UST leaving at 6:30 p.m.

There's' a fan capacity of 1,200 at Gangelhoff Center and the doors will be shut if we reach that count.

If the Toms win on Thursday, they will host an 8 p.m. playoff championship game at CU on Saturday night. if the Toms lose on Thursday, they will await Monday's announcement of the NCAA playoff field but are likely assured a spot.

Men's Hockey

The Tommie men (11-10-4 overall) are seeded third and play Saturday night at No. 2-seed Hamline. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at Drake Arena on the St. Paul Academy campus in St. Paul. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students. MIAC passes are accepted but no others.

Drake's capacity is just over 600. St. Thomas will get an allotment of 150 tickets that go on sale at a UST window Saturday at 5:30 p.m. until they're gone. If any tickets remain from the Hamline allotment, they will go on sale at 7 p.m.

The winner plays in the MIAC finals on Wed. March 3.

Women's Hockey

The Tommie women close their regular season next weekend with two hoem games against Concordia-Moorhead. UST has qualified for the MIAC playoffs, which begin March 2 and likely will have a March 4 semifinal game.
