Volleyball soars to MIAC finals with 3-1 win

Second-seed St. Thomas advanced to the MIAC volleyball playoff finals with Thursday night's 3-1 home victory over third-seed Concordia-Moorhead. The 11th-ranked Toms topped the 17th-rated Cobbers, 25-15, 19-25, 25-12, 25-14.
UST will travel to Northfield for Saturday's 7 p.m. championship match against top-seeded St. Olaf. The 12th-ranked Oles held off St. Ben's in five sets with a 15-8 score in the decisive game.
Emily Foster had 52 assists, 19 digs, and two blocks to lead UST (28-5). Katie Bonine has 16 kills and 17 digs; Jill Osborne had 19 kills and hit .436; Nicole Potts had 10 kills and nine digs; and Kaitlain Wachter had 24 digs. UST hit .271 on the match.
St. Thomas has won 11 consecutive conference matches after losing 3-1 to St. Olaf on Sept. 15. The Tommies have won 23 of their last 25 matches overall and six in a row at the new AARC.
The Cobbers (24-6) had won 12 of their last 13 matches coming into Thursday. They likely will land an NCAA playoff at-large berth when pairing are announced on Monday. Jenna Green had 13 kills and 16 digs to lead the Cobbers.
