Volleyball tops Blazers, gets MIAC title share

No. 12-ranked St. Thomas scored a 3-1 win over St. Ben's in MIAC volleyball play Wednesday night in St. Joseph. The 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 25-14 victory secured at least a share of the MIAC championship.
Coach Thanh Pham's Tommies became just the second program to win or share four consecutive MIAC volleyball championships (joining the 1993-96 St. Olaf teams).
St. Thomas (24-4) has concluded its MIAC season at 10-1. St. Olaf is 9-1 with a home match remaining Saturday vs. Carleton.
The Tommies have won 19 consecutive matches against Division III opponents this season since a 3-1 loss to St. Olaf on Sept. 15.
Emily Foster had 42 assists and eight digs; Katie Bonine had 12 kills and four blocks; Kaitlain Wachter had 24 digs; Jill Osborn had 11 kills and hit .435; Alesha Nelson had 11 kills; Tori Jones added nine blocks.
The Toms will play four matches this weekend at the Carthage (Wis.) Invitational.
