Men Hockey drops 7-3 decision to UW-Eau Claire

Visitor UW-Eau Claire got goals from six different players en route to a 7-3 victory over St. Thomas in Saturday's non-conference men's hockey game in Mendota Heights.
The Blugolds (4-7-3) outshot the Tommies (5-7-3) by a 20-7 margin in the second period, when they scored four goals in a 6:34 span to take a 4-1 lead. Issiah Bennis scored a power-play goal to tie the score and a breakaway goal to take a 2-1 lead. The Blugolds got goals from Jordan Singer and Brent Marple moments later for a 4-1 cushion.
The Toms' Andrew Kappers scored a power-play goal with 21 seconds left in period two. Parker Burgess scored his second goal of the game at 5:20 of the third period to pull UST within 4-3, but Joe Bluhm scored 38 seconds later for UWEC.
The Blugolds added two goals in the final 4:01 to close out the scoring.
Senior Joe Schraeder had 35 saves for the Toms. UWEC freshman Brandon Stephenson had 25 saves.
St. Thomas resumes conference play next Friday and Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead.
