Men's Hockey rally falls short in 5-3 loss to UWRF

UW-River Falls scored two goals in a 20-minute mid-game stretch en route to a 5-3 victory over St. Thomas in Friday's men's hockey play on UST's home ice in Mendota Heights.
River Falls' Bo Storozuk had 23 saves, and UST's Sean Deichert has 20 saves.
The Falcons (8-5-1) took a 4-2 lead on Jason Yuel's goal with 10:21 left in the final period. UST pulled within 4-3 on Andrew Kappers' goal five seconds into a power play with 8:33 to go.
St. Thomas (5-6-3) took a late penalty that gave the Falcons a power-play with 52 seconds left. The Toms controlled the puck and got three shots at the tying goal on a short-handed rush. In the process, UST pulled its goalie, but UWRF got a long rebound and a 2-on-1 breakaway, and Justin Brossman scored into the open net with 13 seconds to play.
Kappers' goal broke a string of 11 consecutive goals by 11 different Tommie players over their last eight games.
Tony Danna scored his first collegiate goal at 6:33 for a 1-0 Tommie lead.
The Falcons' Tyler Czuba scored twice to give his team a 2-0 lead, with Josh Calleja assisting on both. Czuba's goal at 9:38 tied the score, and his tally at 14:02 made it 2-1.
Rob Phillip tied the score 2-2 for UST with a goal at 17:56 late in the first.
River Falls' Sean Roadhouse scored at 11:33 of the second period to lift the Falcons into a 3-2 lead.
UST plays UW-Eau Claire Saturday at 7 p.m. back in Mendota Heights at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
