Fast start fuels big win in Women's Hoops

Sophomore guard Ali Johnson made five treys and scored a career-high 21 points and the visiting Tommies shot 49% from the floor in Wednesday night's 88-63 women's basketball win over the host Auggies.
St. Thomas (12-5 overall, 9-5 MIAC) raced to leads of 8-0 and 33-8 and led 46-25 at halftime. The Toms finished with a 29-1 advantage in bench points as they improved to 8-2 in road games this season.
Rachel Booth had 15 points and six rebounds and Becky Theisen scored 12 points. UST had a 49-35 rebounding advantage. Sarah Smith had a game-high eight rebounds.
The Auggies (3-14, 3-11) shot 29% from the field. Brittany Dyshaw had 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals and Shannon Renne scored 16 points.
The Tommies play a Saturday home game at CU's Gangelhoff Center against Macalester, which lost Wednesday to Bethel and fell out of the MIAC lead. Saturday's game has been moved back to a 3 p.m. start.
